How does Mike eat and breathe?

Surely he's been up there years - where does the food and oxygen come from?

reply

Just repeat to yourself "it's just a show, I should really just relax."

reply

The Umbilicus.

reply

AH! But the Umbilicus wasn't always there if you remember. I don't remember the episode, but they brought it down to Deep 13 so they could send things back and forth.

And what about when they left Earth Orbit.

And what about when they came back to Earth and never reestablished the Umbilicus.

And what about Scarecrow's Brain! 

reply

They stocked up. If you have the DVD of the 1996 movie, check out some of the deleted scenes. In one scene the crew shelters from a meteorite storm in one of the SoL's storage rooms which is full of water barrels and large cans of Hamdingers, beef stew and baked beans. I imagine this would necessitate a pretty good air filtration system as well.

reply

Sure, over the course of the series they addressed these issues quietly. Mitchell mentioned the Storeroom before the movie and the Air System was mentioned in season three(I count the KTMA23 year as season Zero) if I am not mistaken, but what about Scarecrow's brain? 

reply

The SOL is implied to be absolutely enormous, with grain silos and possibly enough room to have several years' supply of oxygen and food

reply

It clearly uses Time Lord technology. Bigger on the inside.

Let's see who takes the bait.

reply

He doesn't eat and breathe. He just relaxes!
