If the show were to come out on DVD. Would it be possible to include a soundtrack of the songs with the DVDs? And were the songs recorded as full songs or only parts for the show? I would assume full songs.
Isn't there anything we could possibly do to get the ball rolling on this project?
Sorry I took so long to see your question. Because the show wasn't music heavy (like WKRP) then I wouldn't think music rights would be that large a problem. In total, I don't think we used more than a half dozen songs in all the episodes, which would make it affordable to license.
As far as getting the ball rolling, a letter to Warner Bros. Home Video, 4000 Warner Blvd in Burbank would at least let them know that there are still fans of the show out there who would love a DVD set.
It's getting less and less likely because the parent show, GROWING PAINS, performed so badly on DVD that no further seasons will be released after season 1.
It's a crying shame that so many series are being chopped off after one or two seasons of poor DVD sales, which I believe is oftentimes the fault of the companies and poor promotion rather than consumer disinterest.
It would be nice if Just the Ten of Us was even on TV in syndication, at this point. Why not stick it in a line-up with Growing Pains? It's marketable. Outside of collector's circles and very rare holiday airings, the series has practically vanished into thin air. Without syndicated airings, and given the trouble Growing Pains has had on DVD, there's really not much hope, here.
But I'm sure the music rights would be much easier to deal with here than with WKRP. Really, the only music-heavy episodes are the Lubbocks Babes stuff, which doesn't seem like it would be a problem, and a few bits and pieces in passing from other characters. Nothing extreme.
dang i collected growing pains season 1 already, now i won't be able to get anymore seasons because of poor sales? that really bites. would love to see just the ten of us on dvd, i'm enjoying watching it on you tube, would also love rags to riches on dvd but i think that only lasted one season?
dang again o well at least i can see kirk cameron over and over in season one, why do they keep turning out the reality show stuff like crazy on dvd? and when is season 4 of facts of life coming out? that was my fave show.
I wonder if the lack of growing pains dvd sells is due to the fact it's available all the time on cable... especially since you can easily record the shows now a days!
I would love to see "just the 10 of us" again! I loved that show.
So will you be released from prison soon, Steve? It was distressing to hear about those child pornography charges and the subsequent conviction. I hope that you have received treatment for your condition and can get back to work or a better life upon your release.
