DVD!!!??
Does anyone know when or if the series will come out on dvd, I really hope it does.

I managed to buy a copy of the 1 disc last week and the quality is poor. I seem to recall that there were two DVD volumes released here in the UK. The extra features were nothing special either.

Actually they cut the sales short and are going to re-release them the same time as the new series air next year.

If they ever release another Nightmare movie, and the subsequent advertising blitz results in a re-releasing of another DVD set of the entire movie franchise, I could see them MAYBE including the series in that DVD set.
However, I do not see them releasing a new DVD set, and the series was not remotely good enough to warrant spending any kind of money for a DVD release. The series basically fed off Freddy's popularity from the late 80's, and there weren't any memorable episodes. In fact, I watched almost every episode during it's run (what can I say - I loved Freddy), and the ONLY episode I remember is one where a guy winds up trapped in one of his drawings at the end. I also remember Freddy being on at the very beginning and the very end of every episode and guest appearing in a few episodes, but that's it.
Sorry - I just don't think this series will ever see DVD release.

$300???
You can get the box set at Wal-Mart right now with the first 6 films plus a bonus disc for about $45 or less.
So let's add 'Freddy Vs. Jason'. We're probably up to $50 now. And based on the fact that they've been able to get entire seasons of shows on to 4-5 DVD discs, you'd only be looking at MAYBE an additional $25-$30 to include the TV series. So at most - MOST - you're looking at MAYBE $100, at most $125 for the whole shebang.

I don't want you to think I'm trying to pick a fight with you by any means. And actually, it's a silly argument, but hey, that's what these boards are for, right :-)?
Retail price currently for the box set on DVD (which includes the first 7 movies plus a bonus disc) is $60.92. I know that's not the original retail price but that is what the retail price is now. If you include Freddy Vs. Jason (retail price = $19.96, but with a bonus CD that probably would not transfer over), that comes to $80.88.
Now, let's say that Freddy's Nightmares by itself was separated into two seasons (44 episodes, I believe, were made). And let's say both of those sets have a retail price of about $49.99 each (round it to $50 to make it easier) because that's about the most you're going to see most any TV series short of Star Trek sell on DVD. That's also being very generous considering that there would probably be limited to no special features whatsoever. So, $80.88 plus $100 for both seasons still only comes to $180.88. And with Wal-Mart, Sam's Club, and Best Buy, you would be able to get the set for significantly less.
You can't tell me that $181 is too expensive for 8 movies and 44 TV episodes for diehard fans of the series (I'd buy it). And considering some of the crap TV shows that are hitting DVD that have had even less episodes than this series, anything is possible.
My gut tells me, however, that this show won't see DVD light (something you and I are agreeing on). The only chance it has is if a new Nightmare were to be released sometime soon, and thus a market opens up for it. I still think you wouldn't be able to sell them by itself, and you'd have to include it in a package deal with the other movies. But I do think that it would sell, especially if it were released with another Nightmare movie and that movie did above average.
Just my opinion, though.

I think it sold below expectations because it was mass produced at a time when DVD was still a fairly new (and expensive) concept, and it had been roughly 4 or 5 years since a Nightmare movie had been released, and people figured the series buried. Also, because the DVDs were...primative (with lack of special features), I think that hurt it's chances of being successful.
I think if the box set had been released at the time Freddy Vs. Jason came out, and with the new advances in DVDs, the box set would have sold higher.
well i just read that new line is in the works of creating two more freddy movies....one is freddy vs jason vs michael myers, and the other is a prequel to a nightmare on elm st. now the problem i see with this is the first episode of the series "freddy's nightmares" was the prequel. maybe they can expand on it some more but i hope they stay true to the same story line since the prequel really already does exist. also, maybe with the new movies, they will think about releasing the tv series on dvd since these two movies are sure to be very popular. anyways, here is the article...
Englund: More Freddy Coming?
Freddy vs. Jason star Robert Englund (Freddy Krueger) told the Bloody-Disgusting.com Web site that New Line wants to make another movie with his character. "New Line is committed to making at least one more Freddy movie," Englund told the site. "They have commissioned both a [Nightmare on Elm Street] prequel and Freddy vs. Jason vs. Michael Myers. No word on which one they will actually make or when."
The latter film would pit Nightmare's Freddy against Friday the 13th's Jason Voorhees and Halloween's psychopathic killer, Myers.
Englund also revealed that New Line ordered a pilot for a reality series featuring him as the host. "New Line made Nightmare on Elm Street: Real Nightmares, a reality show that I hosted, in which contestants described their nightmares and then were challenged to confront their fears by being put in a situation that evoked their nightmares," he said. "For example, a woman scared of clowns was locked in a fun house and terrorized by clowns who appeared out of mirrors and down through the ceiling, etc. For whatever asinine reason they decided not to air it. That's all I know. Oh, it could possibly air on the new CW network."

AOL in2tv is suppose to be free when ever it start. So this show only has freddy at the beginning and end? Is he actually involved int eh show or is he just talking to the audience int eh beginning and end?
shareMaybe you're right.
However, I hold out hope because:
"Bewitched" the crappy re-make of the series starring Nicole Kidman led to the relase of "Tabitha" a totally forgotten 13 series sitcom starring Lisa Hartman from 1978.
If a show like "Tabitha" which no one really remembers or ever heard of can be relased, "Freddy's Nightmares" can be too.

this new blue disc or whatever it is called is going to be able to hold alot more storage then what DVD's currently can. From what I've heard about these things, you'd be able to fit all 7 ANOES movies into the one disc, including commentaries and bonus'
Start praying they make just put every FN episde on 1 disc and throw it in as a bonus with a future release of ANOES set. Tho there supposed to be High Definition DVD's... I really couldnt care less if there even just taken from a VHS copy and put onto the disc. I dont think anyone would be disapointed that it couldnt have been cleaned up, there not that great, but there usuly so bad you find them enjoyable. If people still keep there old VHS's and dont mind watching them that way still, then as long as there ALL released on a nice disc, it would make the fans happy. And it should just say on the cover "master tapes have been damaged, so quality is poor" and sell it off as one of those cheap DVDs that already ARE a VHS transferred to DVD.
These are movies fans want; and I dont know who made the rule that everything HAS to be digatly remastered and presented in widescreen with out a speck of dust on it. Fans will want it... if you realise every epsiode in the same thing, it will sell better then those annoying individual releases they keep bringing out. No one buys them because they expect that a box set will come out eventualy and you can pick them all up nd usualy for a better pric then buying 100 volumes of something. Its more convinient too.
It sure would recive bad reviews from people who never saw the show and saw it for the first time, but it wouldnt be so hard to to have an introduction explaining why the quality isnt so good. Or something in print explaining it. It would sell if theyd market the *beep* thing properly. That whole TEST OUT ! VOLUME is a *beep* marketing stratagy that was garenteed to fail. Tho the quality was BAD, did anyone who bought it who used to watch the show get rid of there copy? There isnt a hell of alot of second hand copys up for sale!! (read those things on amazon carefully, there not opened)

yeah, but thats cause there cheap ass money making bastards who dont care what consumers really want as to what they want to try and make more profit out of by selling in small portions.
And the same goes for the releases they ARE making as well. Something as small as FN's wouldnt make that much of a profit because no one really remembers it, it's not wanted by many more then the fans who remember the show. Yet if it is something they know is a seller, they scam fans by releasing a *beep* edition first. Then once they make there money out of a 2.0 DVD with nothing else but the movie and trailer, they decide it's time to double dip and cash in some more. So they release the same movie again and call it the "special edition" but half the time there is nothing special about them, there the way the DVD shouldve been done in the first place. An example of how poorly they choose the word "special" is to look at the region 4 release of Con Air. It got released as nothing but the movie and subtitles. Then they had the nerve to release it again as a "special edition" and all it came with was the trailer and a 2 minute featurette. I'm still expecting a future 2 disc edition of Con Air with a bunch of bonus features that you will never watch again and take no interest in story boarding and how ILM broke the mold in CGI effects while also giving you the 45 minute introduction of ILM history, every movie they worked on and then 200 computer model shots that makes sense only to someone else in the field of computer design.
People know this stuff now, there not as dumb as the companys making the movie think. If someone forks out $20 here, $30 there for a DVD only to be pissed off that a better version is released 6 months later for the same price, there not going to be happy and there not going to fork over another $30 here, $40 there for another one. Thats where piracy comes into place. People will either rent it, or "steal" it. Is it really stealing tho when it's more the case of getting a free copy of what you originaly shouldve gotten in the first place? Is it really "stealing" or just "getting even" and taking what you got ripped off on.
And then the morons further lose money by not releasing movies around the world at the same time. It used to be ok for them when they would like to release a summer blockbuster in the US, then wait for Summer in Australia 6 months later... but the thing is, people have the internet now, people know when movies are coming out more then ever before, 1000's of web sites devoted to it. So if something is released in one region. And it's not in the next region at the same time... take a guess whats going to happen?
Prices are riducles on new movies too. and people know that the movie will be cheaper later on. So if they release a DVD for $40, and the majority of people who dont have to buy it, then they're gonnah hold off and just rent it or wait for it to become cheaper. And during that wait, they usualy end up with a pirate copy.
Companys can bitch all they want about people stealing there movies. But a point to make is, how many times have you bought a propper release of a DVD you already had a bootleg of, once the price was what you thought was worth it for that movie? It's more like previewing and having a temp copy, if it was worth buying and you where satafied with how the DVD came out or whatever reason, then you buy the propper one. If its crap, you dont want it. Those companys donthave any one to blame but them selves for making lousey desicions instead of doing what it right. It's all about how cheap they can make a DVD for and how much they can get for it. And the consumers are smarter then to waste there money on what the have come to expect to not be worth it later on.
They can debate as much as they want, but in the end it comes down to *beep* desicion making and expecting a huge profit out of everything they release... if thats the case, then sell off the rights to the smaller things that only a selected cult audience would want and have them custom make a dvd copy of something when someone wants to buy a smaller known title. It wouldnt cost much money to have all the MasterCopy and VHS shows put onto a hardrive of a computer, worked out how they should be placed and presented. And wait for someone to put there order in. But nooooooo, *beep* the little guy, *beep* what people want, *beep* convenience, *beep* satasfaction, it's all about making someone's pockets bigger who has the nerve to complain when they lose money in something they lost the money for before the sold the damn thing.

Yeah, theres always something holding back the ones people want, yet the crappiest of crap shows listed in worst-of-all-time catagorys get instant DVD releases for some reason.
They did release FN's on region 4 VHS here on Australia. I have a few of them i've bought ex-rental. I dont know if they where available for purchase in stores at anytime, but most video stores had a few copys. Now all the rental places are getting rid of all there VHS' and $2 in anyone's currency is a good enough price for a FN video.
who cares if this gets a dvd release, i spent a fortune buying all the videos from amazon, what a waste of money. they must have spent all the budget getting robert englund on board, coz the sets are made of cardboard. get a proper anthology dvd like the twilight zone, creepshow or vault of horror.
