China Beach DVDs

Don't get your hopes up, fellow CB fans, but there is, shall I say, an "irregular" set of DVDs for the entire CB series available from www.idvdshop.com. Some of you I'm sure are aware of this.

Right now, the set is on sale for $29.95 (plus about $15 shipping), and the service is fast (about a week). The set consists of 13 DVDs, each with four to six episodes. They are recorded from TV, so the picture and sound quality aren't all that great, but they're passable.

However, three of my DVDs are blank, and I'm trying to get replacements. Looks as though someone forgot to finalize the copy process. It's been only a few days, so I may or may not get satisfaction. Of the DVDs I've watched so far, a couple of the episodes hung up (as in freeze-frame), and I couldn't get beyond those spots by fast forwarding. One episode would not play at all, and the episodes were mislabeled on one DVD. I still have a way to go, but despite the problems thus far, I have enjoyed watching CB immensely.

BTW, as I found out later, these came from China (not Taiwan--the other place). So if you're willing to take a chance, you might be able to get 2/3 to 3/4 of the episodes. Segments of various episodes are also on YouTube.

So until Warner Brothers decides to market this set, these for me will just have to do. At 65, I hope to live long enough to get "real" copies. :-|

If these are the same dvds I have you may also find that the episode "100 Klicks Out" is missing because the episode "Always Goodbye" is duplicated.
Shame on Warner Bros. for not rescuing this incredible show from music rights hell and reissuing it.
