More Information on DVD sets

This website has a list of what songs made it into the DVDs, and which did not. I thought fans might be interested. It's so awesome that this amazing series is finally coming to DVD.

so it os finally on dvd. not on netflix.

Not yet. There's usually a delay between when something is released and when it is available on netflix. Remember, "China Beach" isn't like a regular show. There are issue of music rights, which complicate the situation.

Time-Life doesn't sell in the usual way and I'm thinking they wouldn't then allow it be be shown in other mediums. None of their dvd's that I'm aware of are shown elsewhere. The Carol Burnet Show, Dean Martin's etc, are "exclusive" collections they own. Once they own it I seriously doubt (there other collections aren't) they'd have it shown on any other channel or co. site.
Nice thought, but can't see it happening.

Time Life usually has an exclusivity agreement for 1 year. Then at some point after that time they will be released in stores and/or on Netflix. It's happened with all of their other releases. You just have to be patient.

And does the price usually go down? Although I am well aware that may not happen in this case. The music rights must have cost an absolute fortune.

Thanks for the link, Sarah. But that list is only of those songs that *were* cleared. Which obsessive expert will compile and post a list of those that weren't?

reply

Someone will. I wonder how they handled the replacement songs. I hope they went the route of "Wonder Years" on Netflix-it's the same song/arrangement, but a different person singing it. That was much better than what they did for "Quantum Leap" where they replaced some oldies with generic sounding background music. I won't buy the DVD until I know exactly what I'm getting.
