The Gyro Captain cleans up nicely...

I just watched this and was amazed how young Bruce Spence, who I knew from Road Warrior/Thunderdome, looked. While watching it, I thought this movie was filmed before Road Warrior or at least around the same time, so I was surprised it was actually made 2 years after Thunderdome.

Anyway, it was nice seeing him in this. And without post-apocalyptic attire. I wish he was in more films popular in the US.

Bruce Spence was a staple of aussie movies around this time, and personally I have been a fan of everything he'd done. If you get the chance, I recommend you have a look at "Stork", "Dimboola" and even "Hercules Returns".

But it's in The Year My Voice Broke where I reckon he really broke free and showed some "serious" acting. Jonah seemed to be very much an inspiration for Danny's bard-like persona.

Actually, in hindsight, there is a bit of a "special comments team" feel about most of the characters.

Awesome movie, the Jonah character imperative to knitting it.
