Seans Age?

How did they do the thing where he was young in the flash backs but when he was telling the story he was about 16, did they just film most of the movie and then just put it away for about five years unitil he was older?

The movie was filmed in 1985, and for whatever reason, it was shelved for two years. Maybe the scenes with the older Sean Astin, were filmed in 1987.

I was wondering the same thing, I saw the movie on cable again today and had to get on here and check it out. However I was disappointed to see that imdb had no trivia or anything on this.

Maybe the filmmakers never originally intended for a narration but that it could work in after they put the film together. Or, they might've planned to wait for Sean to grow up just a little bit, working on another project in between, until they felt he was the suitable age.

When Sean was doing the narriration he was 16. All the other parts he was 14.

I always wondered that too, I always thought how is he telling the story with a grown up voice when in the flashbacks his voice hadn't changed from a kids voice.

i know this is now two years after the point, but the reason he does the narration bit was because puberty had set in and his voice changed 85%+ of the way through filming.

so it wasn't on purpose having him narrate, it was out of necessity and ingenuity. worked well imo.

Another reason is because many films get shelved without the proper studio support. Some never see the light of day. This is one of the ones they tinkered with and gave a second chance. Turned out all for the better, unfortunately it just didnt do well in its' initial release.
