Rock/Mountain climbing shots.

Anybody happens to know where the shots were filmed at exactly where the boys are learning to rappell and rope-swing-rope-climb?(The scenes where Sean Astin developed vertigo on the rope and was left there to hang.)I've gotta go there to check it out some day.

1. The boys weren't learning to rapel (they NEVER rapelled) or rock wall climb. They stuck to a path until it ran out, at which point Vic climbed up the face, set a pivot, then had them pendulum across to the other side where the ledge picked back up. Peduluming is NOT rapelling.

2. Sean Astin's character didn't develop vertigo. He was scared to death that Vic was going to do something to him, and slipped. He didn't have enough momentum to carry him across, and Vic just left him hanging there.

That is near the road up to the Sierra Buttes fire lookout (near Sierra City, CA). You can see the Sardine lakes down below. The "Filming Locations" section mentions Cromwell and Quincy, CA which are not far away.

A very popular hike. This picture was taken nearby and you'll recognize the lakes below and the road cutting up the ridge to the left.
