Alan was a cry baby!

Vic left him hanging on the ledge yeah but he was still one of the biggest complainers I have seen on film.

I agree, Vic was only trying to teach Alan a few things about real life, he was a spoiled city kid and needed to learn how to take control of his own life and actions.

Agreed. In his narration, Alan talks about how psychotic Vic was, when really Alan was just a spoiled brat. If anything, Vic was a good guy. It's not like Alan didn't deserve the stuff that happened. He was being a jerk. And to pay him back, they break the dude's leg? Not cool.

I can't believe i'm posting on this board....i need to stop reliving my adolescence hehe.

Well, I hate to say it, but this is a very lib movie.

Vic's character is trying to teach responsibility, overcoming fears, succeeding when you think you can't ... and Alan is focused on "how dare anyone make me do anything". The end result is a broken leg, which comes from Alan being excessively disagreeable and Vic being excessively aggressive.

Of course, this movie was trying to teach a certain belief system. The problem with Hollywood is that they have to make up these kinds of things to make people think badly about, in this case, people trying to teach lessons. If they hadn't made Vic extreme in leaving Alan on the bridge and hanging off a cliff, Alan would have wound up being some snot-nosed punk who annoyed everyone - so we have to make Vic into a total ass.

A battle of wills is ok, but leaving a 14-year-old (or whatever Alan was) stranded in the rain overnight or hanging off a cliff...lucky for Vic Alan didn't die of pneumonia or fall off Devil's Tooth. Mucho lawsuits and/or child neglect charges.

It's a movie.

Vic did go over the top, but it was Allens complete refusal to just do what he was supposed to do that pissed me off. He just didnt get the picture! I found myself hating Allen more and more as the movie went on. He was subborn little pansy through and through. He didnt even learn a lesson at the end. Sure he saved Vic, but his attitude was still crappy.

Freaking douche.

You are all pissed off because Sean Astin's character was a whiny, stubborn, complaining, and scared little pansy. You all proved that Sean Astin did a great job acting in this movie. He made the character so believable that you hate his character. I think his acting was spot on.
