Remembering back, I use to think Vic was the bad guy, but now that I think about it after watching it again, he was pushing these kids to the limit to break out of their comfort zones. And in return they knocked him off a cliff!
He went pretty extreme on them, but he was busting ass. He challenged them and they ran away.
Watching it right now, and oddly enough recorded it two days ago probably as you were watching. And yes I remember the exact same way you did about thinking Vic was the bad guy. But now realize the same thing you pointed out.

When I was a kid and saw this film, I identified more with Alan and thought Vic was a total dick.
After seeing it today again after 20 odd years, I definitely identify more with Vic and can see that he only wanted the best for the boys by pushing them to confront their fears and break through their comfort zones.
I wish I had a teacher like Vic growing up!
