Desperate attempt to "Ferris Beuller" the film
It's obvious that the scenes of a smart allecky Sean Astin commenting on the action (filmed a year after the initial filming) was an attempt by the creators to cash in on the success of the movie "Ferris Bueller's Day Off". The thing that makes it desperate is the fact that the character Sean Astin plays in the camping movie is absolutely nothing like the character making the commentary. There is none of that wise-ass, sarcastic, humorous nature in the character that Astin plays, but suddenly it is all there in the scenes filmed the following year (after the release of Ferris Bueller). Not only do those added scenes conflict with the character traits of Alan (the character played by Astin) but they also interrupt the flow of the movie.
