Would Gekko still have sold out Bluestar if Bud's father had not been so rude to him? Or do you think he would have done it anyway?

shareHe would’ve done it anyway. He’s a raider, out for the buck.
Like he said : “I create nothing….I own.”
From Gekko's "You are a blind man walking around without a cane" comment you should be able to tell that was the game plan from the beginning.
Even Bud's father knew it.
Neither of them had any confidence that Bud, a stockbroker, can turn around an airline.
Bud was blinded by his ambition, unable to see what was right in front of him.
Nope. Gekko always wanted more money as much as possible, no matter how rich he already was and even if it put damage in the path of others, including mutual friends. He realized from the beginning that Bud was just far too naive in looking up into the competence of others to see the reality of things.
Gekko was just showing Bud all that fatherly love and teamwork sportsmanship so he could further exploit him for his own desires. That's why he considers attempting to ditch him early in the film, he wants someone that can do something for HIM, instead of being a team player like Bud.
