Questions about Wildman (spoilers)

Hi,

I have two questions about Wildman:

1. When Gordon asks Bud to follow Wildman, Bud says it's inside information. Why is that? The assumption that Wildman wanted to buy the steel company was just an assumption.

2. Wildman was involved in Bud's scheme to get back at Gordon by buying Bluestar while the unions break the deal with Gordon. Isn't this a huge inside information offense? Why didn't Wildman go to jail?

I don't think there was a signed contract between Gekko and the unions. The most we heard was that he'd have a letter of agreement drawn up in 2 days. In the meantime, Bud learns Gekko betrayed him and Bluestar. So Bud acts quickly and tells the union reps. that there is no deal (just liquidation) with Gekko. However, Gekko needs to be made aware that the reps. know that and that they won't grant the concessions they said they would since they know Gekko wasn't going to honor his agreement. (My assumption is that if he does not get union cooperation, he wouldn't be able to tap into that overfunded pension.) It appeared that Wildman was just accepting a deal that was offered to him. Besting Gekko in the process was consideration enough for the lesser profits he'd be making by running the airline vs. liquidating it. I suppose technically there would be some insider trading but Wildman was very much cast as the "white knight."

On your question #1: I agree. All Bud had found out observing Wildman was that Wildman was travelling to Erie. He told this to Gordon on the phone, and while they were talking they concluded from the trip that Wildman must be about to buy Anacott. An insider trading accusation based on these facts would be very weak indeed.
