I dont remember Fox telling him where he got that info.
The most valuable commodity being information, Gekko clearly had some background checking done on Bud. Would have been easy to discover that fact.

Once Gekko found out that Bud's father worked at Bluestar (info which wouldn't be that hard for Gekko to get), well pretty much anyone could figure out how Bud got the info on Bluestar's court ruling, huh?
oooohh ok now i saw it. Yea he probably did some background checking, that makes sense.
