Charlie Sheen is so good in this

Easily his best performance just disappears into the character.

agreed. he was a new hungry cocky starstruck actor in awe of Douglas and that played perfectly with his character - a new hungry cocky starstruck broker in awe of Gekko.

I think Tom Cruise would have been god like in this. I like Sheen but he is a tad bland at times.

Sheen's Naivety was awfully annoying.

Tom Cruise has never been god like. Cocky, yes, but never god like.

I honestly feel like Sheen is a pretty bad actor, and this wasn't a very good performance. When he yells at people everything just seems off.

I thought that was a terrible performance by Charlie. In fact, Wallstreet was a great movie in spite of him being their. Their were times where I felt he was just remembering his lines. "That would be insider trading Mr. gheko", "he took a bath on that painting", or his report about Wildman in the phone booth are all examples of unatural performances.

Tom Cruise would have done a way better job.

YES, I agree.

Not sure I would call him good, to be honest -- in his scene with his dad, after the meeting at Bud's apartment for Gordon to outline the "deal", Martin handily acts him off the screen while barely even trying -- but it's one of what I consider his two best performances -- interestingly, both for Oliver Stone.

I've never been a fan of Charlie -- his emoting seems calculated and artificial, his speech awkwardly percussive, and I find that thing he does of leaving his mouth open at the end of a line unpleasant to watch.

So he does the job here, but I do wonder if other actors could have done as well, *and* have made me actually care about Bud, because Charlie didn't get me there. I also wonder if the main appeal for Stone of casting Charlie was to have the frisson of father and son playing father and son.

You might very well think that. I couldn't possibly comment.
