That paper reading device

When Bud was in the lawyer's office he used a hand held printer on the files. Did (or does) such a machine exist? I've never seen anything like that.

What Ever Became of…Handheld Copiers?

Porta Copy

Judging by this 1986 Popular Mechanics, it looks like once upon a time at least two different companies produced these. There was the Silver Reed Porta Copy that you see here (which seems to foot the bill for my hazy recollection) and also a Copy-Jack from Plus USA Corp. Since so many other electronics have been successfully miniaturized and portable-ized, it only makes sense that copying on the go would be a hit as well. Instead they shone brightly for but a brief moment, and then disappeared. What ever happened to the portable copier?

Thanks. You'd think it would have had a longer existence. Those machines could be extremely useful!

Yes those devices were real.
