I think Gordon means wasps love to throw money at animal charities and things like that.

It's consistent with stereotypes. Dog paintings, etc. Whether it's true in the world I don't know.

FWIW, the same stereotype - but about English people in England - pops up in "A Hard Day's Night," when John says, "They usually reckon dogs more than people in England." I took that as referring to the posher sorts who tend to share cultural characteristics with American WASPs.
