Tom Cruise as Bud Fox?

I just saw this movie for the first time and I overall liked it but it could have been even better. And even though I think Charlie Sheen did a servicable effort as Bud Fox I can't help to fell that his more okay-ish performance is one of the key things that holds this movie back from reaching it's full potential. Instead of Charlie Sheen I think Tom Cruise would have been a perfect choice for the part. He could have brought more intensity to the character and he was the right age and was a big star at the begining of his career the time.

I totally agree he would have been perfect.

Yeah, I tend to agree. Charlie Sheen was fine and I wouldn't say he detracted from the film at all. However, I think Cruise may have given a slightly better performance.

More so, Cruise's involvement in the film almost certainly would have made it a meaningfully bigger hit. In my opinion, 86-87 is right at the point that Cruise was reaching his heights in terms of stardom (I believe he essentially plateaued at that level for the next 15 or so years). Of course, it would have cost a lot more to cast Cruise than Sheen.

No. Charlie made that role his.

I think both were good choices. Sheen did a good job and Cruise would also have done well.

I think Cruise plays a different type of yuppie then Sheen did. Sheen worked in this role as Bud was naive and incompetent whereas I think Cruise tends to come off as more of the rebel who has some idea of what he is doing.
