Why bring a gun to a knife fight.......

If you have no intention of using it?

While I feel the cowboy segment was the worst part of this film, the Malone execution scene is a close second.

So not only is our man Malone savvy enough to know a hitman has entered his apartment, but he is confident enough to know the hit man does not have a gun, as he has no problem keeping his back to the hitman. Then, in violation of his earlier sage advice to the naive rube Ness, Malone brings his gun to the knife fight, but the. just shoos away the potential killer like a pesky gnat, actually following him outside, where the REAL killer awaits, part of a hit plot that makes no sense whatsoever. Who in their right mind would say “Lets send Bowtie Vinny inside”, armed with only a knife against a shotgun wielding violent tough guy who will then just happily follow the knife wielder outside where the real killer with the tommy gun lies in wait? Not only that, but after taking enough .45 caliber lead to open a pencil factory, Connery manages to not only make it inside, but hang in there until Ness arrives sometime afterwards.
