The Untouchables vs. Gangster Squad

So, which is better? I've seen Gangster Squad, but sadly, I have not seen this. Is it worth the hype? I mean, this movie is about a man, putting together a small team, and going after Al Capone. Gangster Squad is about a man, putting together a small team, and going after Mickey Cohen. Both real life criminals, both real-life stories.

So, Which is better? Should I watch The Untouchables?

reply

You should definitely watch it. I love The Untouchables, first film I ever saw in HD and I remember it to this day. It's a true classic with 5-6 great actors you should immediately recognize.

Untouchables was better.

Both of them totally butcher historial accuracy for the sake of entertainment. Untouchables is more entertaining.

reply

Yeah. I still liked Gangster Squad though. I thought it would be better, but I still enjoyed it.

Please watch The Untouchables! I just re-watched it, after watching Gangster Squad last night... which felt like a sub-par rip-off, but without David Mamet's snappy dialogue or De Palma's stirring direction to back it up!

IS THIS SOMETHING YOU CAN SHARE WITH THE REST OF US, AMAZING LARRY?!?!

reply

It depends how familiar you are with earlier films, especially from the era this film is imitating. Young newbies usually don't like it so much, they prefer TDK type films only.
