Does this guy have to exaggerate every single aspect of a movie ?.. his "direction"(or whatever you want to call it) makes me cringe

I think it has to do with the over the top way movies like this were made in the 80s. This was the decade for action movies.

Brian Di Palma would have made a great director in Bollywood, I feel this whenever I watch any of his movies.

Agreed this and Scarface Are the most overrated movies on imdb. The height of 80s cheesiness.

This was De Palmas style on nearly all his films. Even at the time some people loved it and some people hated it. I personally loved it. Very operatic and marked De Palma out as an Auteur. Nobody makes films like him anymore.

Empire magazine when published in the late 80's ranked him as one on the top 10 film makers of the time.

It's a bit like people who hate shaky cam, quite in vogue... But in a generation people will be looking at those films thinking "what a mess".
