Filmed in 1987 but feels like a 1990s film

....well, I always thought so. Good movie.

Yeah, it might as well have been made in the 60's I guess. A few years is such a huge difference :rolls eyes:

I agree with the OP actually, this film feels very 90s to me and I used to think it was from 1990-91. And the 80s feels very different from the 90s.

It has not aged as much as other films from that era.

It's that man again!!

I kind of see and agree with that.

Look at Scarface, made just four years earlier by the same director, to me that is a very eighties looking movie, this has a real sheen and style to it, which reminds me very much of 90's movies.

I was 14 when I first saw the Untouchables and it really blew me away, the opening credits and music were fantastic and I just loved the movie.

I think the cast might have something to do with that. Kevin Costner especially, I know he was starting to get big in the 80s, but the 90s is where he really made a name for himself. Same goes for Andy Garcia. Sean Connery we all know has been around long before The Untouchables, but I do think his career got a tiny spark of life after its release, having a couple hit movies in the 90s.

Agreed. It wasn’t such a huge gap but stylistically you can definitely see a difference between several early 90’s movies to almost anything from the 80’s. And this film has a tone and certain flair that makes it feel more 90’s.

The fact it’s a period piece may have something to do with it, but De Palma’s direction and the overpowering score also set it apart. And sure the film is over-the-top in true De Palma fashion, but it has aged better than others.
