Surprised to see people don't like this

Just re watched it ... it's still great!

Sure, it takes a bit of suspension of disbelief, but it's an epic. Great music, famous set pieces, brilliant acting - as long as you treat it like a superhero movie without costumes (which surely must have been the intent). I know there's always one or two people who don't like a film, but I was genuinely surprised by the amount of dislike on the message boards for this one, it seems nearly 50/50. In my mind it's a classic.

Oh well, everybody's entitled to their opinion, and all that, but I always just thought this was widely regarded as an iconic film...

Agreeing absolutely. But when you say re-watched it, may I ask where? On tv? I'll tell ya, I first watched this in June 1987 when it opened, I was blown away and went to it few more times that summer. Then when it came out on VHS I was probably the 1st guy in line for its rental LOL. Decades had passed since, I owned a Dvd and a Bluray (& the great OST cd too). But it's just not the same thing seeing it on small screen.

Then last week there's suddenly this Brian De Palma film fest in my area!! Guess who's the 1st guy in line for tickets. You have to experience it on the big screen to enjoy its full cinematic impact.
