was michael even offered the sequel?

does anyone know if the producers went to michael j. fox first to reprise his role as scott howard before the focus decided to switch to his cousin?

reply

Michael J. Fox was offered the sequel and turned it down. He said he had other commitments (BTTF & Family Ties) and didn't want too much overexposure. If he'd been in this film, I honestly think it would have bombed, as well. It might have done better, mainly because it would have received some TV advertising, probably on NBC, the home of Family Ties.

I dont know if it was offered to him but I cant think of any commitments he might've had. I believe Family Ties was ending around this time and BTTF cam out two years prior and was done before even the first Teen Wolf and BTTF 2 wouldnt be made for another 2 years.

Family Ties ran until 1989. So he did have a commitment to his show. Back to the Future came out the same year as the first Teen Wolf. I guess he chose Family Ties and BTTF sequels over Teen Wolf Too.

I was thinking that myself...But looking back at it there were some politics involved. Like M.J. Fox being on family ties, and Michael Zorek appearing in a couple of episodes and also being in Teen Wolf Too(not to mention High school USA also with Michael J. Fox. Also,Jay Tarses aka Coach Finstock(Teen Wolf) appeared on family Ties as well, but was not in TW 2)and Malory Keaton played by justine Bateman(Jason bateman's sister)was also on family ties. Plus in TW2 it says Bateman productions at the beginning. I know this is all speculation but it does seem weird that Michael j Fox did not make a cameo or anything in TW 2. They probably thought it would lead to conflict or perhaps contracts would get all murky, I dunno. But its interesting how these aspects are interlinked... Thanks for pointing this out :)

I don't think he would have did it if his schedule was free. He seemed to dislike the experience of the first one whenever brought up in interviews.
