I am not trying to bad mouth this movie. It is good for what it is worth, I remember watching it on Joe Bob's Drive-In Theater. I just don't understand how this movie got onto DVD. Can someone explain to me why one movie that probably did not gross that much money goes to DVD while another movie that did gross some money does not go to DVD?
This movie, like most other Troma films, has one thing going for it: cult status. Cult films tend to have small but steady sales, unlike major movies that usually sell tons of copies upon their release but then quickly drop in popularity. Troma knew that there was money to be made with a DVD of this movie.
There are also lots of people that pride themselves in owning every Troma release, so many people would probably buy this DVD just to have the complete set.
So yes, this movie probably didn't do huge business at the box office, but Troma's rabid (literally) fanbase insured that a DVD would be successful.
Interesting. I've watched most of the Troma library, and Surf Nazis is the only movie I couldn't stand and had to stop watching twice before finally finishing it. You must be my polar opposite.
