Doesn't surprise me. It's actually common for hollywood people, such as the makers of BvS, to think movies like Superman IV suck, and then turn around and completely rip them off (or certain important plot lines). Happens all the time:
- Cutthroat Island was the biggest bomb of all time - yet Pirates of the Caribbean knocked it off completely. - Kung Fu Panda ripped off Beverly Hills Ninja. - Fast & Furious is a combo of No Man's Land (1987) and Point Break. - The Crow copies The Wraith (1986). - She's All That shamelessly aped 1987's Can't Buy Me Love. - The Faculty is a crappy high school remake of The Thing. - Chappie is a combo of Robocop and Short Circuit. - Cars is the same as Doc Hollywood. - Thor II copies Masters of the Universe. - Wall-E is Short Circuit. - Galaxy Quest is the Three Amigos. - 13 going on 30 rips off Like Father Like Son & Vice Versa
Films that are considered failures/old/mediocre usually have some opportunistic hack just waiting in the wings to steal something from it and claim it as its own. I guess they figure that because the films were failures that it's ok to steal from it because no one cares.
By and large you're right, but I'll say I think Three Amigos and Galaxy Quest are really both taking elements of the Seven Samurai and other stories and redoing them. Bug's Life did the same thing.
Also, other than character design I think WALL-E has little to do with Short Circuit. Minor plot points, but it's mostly different.
Yeah, I think you're right about Galaxy Quest, that is an old story that preceded Three Amigos (I think GQ took a lot of pointers from TA, though).
In regards to Wall-E, I think the character itself is just a retooling of Johnny 5. Ripping off a movie isn't always about the story or even overlying stuff so much. Like, If you watch Beverly Hills Ninja, the lead character of Haru is identical to Po from Kung Fu Panda - it's actually a joke how shamelessly they copied it. I think slyly copying things can take many forms from characters, plot, tone/style and even the full movie. It's even worse when they do it to films that are considered bad like this one.
Well, it's bad in the sense they don't have permission and are being unoriginal. But, if you're going to remake something, isn't it not a bad idea to remake something that had some fun ideas badly executed than a film that stands on its own, where you're doing a total pointless repeat?
True, but it must add insult to injury to a film maker when a mega successful movie comes along and has stolen your core ideas that were initially dismissed as ridiculous by everybody and failed big time.
heres all the nods/similarities to the previous Superman movies in BvS) SPOILERS obviously

He says, "A friend of your son's." - When Kidder's Lois asked Reeve's Superman "Who are you?" he said, "A friend."
I don't care what anybody says, I fully believe the Wachowskis saw ROBOT HOLOCAUST (1986) before writing THE MATRIX. There may be a little OVERDRAWN AT THE MEMORY BANK (1983) in there, too.
To be fair, they are both based on the same stuff. The director of He-Man admitted he didn't care about Masters of the Universe so he wanted to do a Jack Kirby homage (creator of Thor), so he based it on Thor and Forth World instead. In fact he even wanted to bring Jack on board to design the sets, but, no surprise, cheap Cannon films said he would cost too much.

MOS was a rehash/rip-off/retread of Superman II, and BS was a rehash/rip-off/retread of Superman IV. David Goyer can't help himself. He couldn't come up with an original plot if his life depended on it.
