If I can ever figure out how, I plan to make a fan-edit which would be largely inspired by Superman Redeemed, but with a few new elements of my own.
For instance, there would be a new subplot about Superman being haunted by the guilt of killing General Zod in the last film. As a nice counterplay to that, he must also face the temptation to become like General Zod when he assumes control of the world. This internal conflict comes to a head in the Evil Superman portion of Superman III.
Another thing that I would do differently is retain, at least in a small role, the villains from SMIII. I have yet to figure out what they would be doing for most of the story, but by the end, they decide to find Kryptonite to take down Superman and come to the incorrect conclusion that Krypton is still around.
In the new ending, Superman's guilt over Zod's death, his violation of Jor-El's non-interference clause, and the "revelation" that Krypton is still there causes him to exile himself to seek his father's advice, setting up for Superman Returns.

I have worked on a fan edit (similar to redeemed) called Superman Reborn. I borrowed from the Superman Returns documentary scene with the boy and BRyan Singer talking over the curtain opening to reveal Superman's backstory in I & II. Then goes to Daily Planet Superman heads for Paris where the bomb is going to go off then cue the opening credits in the style of I & II (Donner Cut) and then back to Paris.
Like I say got the idea from Redeemed but never seen it. It cuts between footage from all films and unused footage.
