The Always Fun Votes vs. Reviews

First off, I love this film, so of course I find this interesting and annoying, as opposed to one I don't care for where I probably wouldn't bother.

Nearly all of the reviews are positive. There are less than 10 of 59 that score 6 or lower, and most of those are a 6. A lot of the reviews are in the higher area, or praise the film without giving a score. Despite this, the average for the film is a 6.0, which will certainly turn some people away from it should they ever run across the page (I know being an 80's teen comedy, there's not much stock in the score, but still, take this as a general commentary on reviews vs. votes).

This is where the main point comes in. I've always found it amusing on sites that allow votes and reviews without requiring one to contain the other to see the difference between the two. Reading the reviews here would have one believe that this is a good, enjoyable film, which I agree with. Looking at the score, people would think that this is a failure of a comedy.

Does anyone else find the gap between scores for people who bother to write a review vs. those who simply throw a number up on a screen interesting? Also, what are some good examples of this, if you care to contribute some?

I guess people who didn't like it would be willing to spend 10 seconds to enter a score but wouldn't bother to spend 5 minutes writing a review...
