Here's the REMAKE...

I had the best idea for a cast that I just had to share with everyone! Tell me, if you don't think this would be PERFECT if they ever do a remake...

Vince Vaughn: Mr. Freddy Shoop
Christine Taylor: Ms. Robin Elizabeth Bishop
Steve Carell: Vice Principal Phil Gills

I'd hate to see a remake, but I do like your choices.

Sorry guys, they are remaking this, it's on IMDb already.

tarheels2002: I just looked up the movie you're calling the remake. It doesn't appear to be a remake. It has none of the same character names and the plot is different. So, I would just call it a movie with the same name.

I had to look twice when I just saw the rerun on TBS. For a second there, I thought Steve Carell WAS the vice principal! Robin Thomas and SC are look alikes!

"What we need here is more cowbell!"...Christopher Walken

I definately agree about Steve Carrell! He does look like the original actor. I like all your choices except for Vince Vaughn (not a big fan of the guy).
But I did get an idea, I know it may sound crazy at first, but think about it for a sec...How about Dean Cameron as Mr. Shoop? I mean, it would be awesome to have an actor from the original, and no-one was funnier than Chainsaw... I know it wouldn't happen, but it would be cool to see!
Those are my two cents :)

This is a really random check, to see who it was that Steve Carell looks EXACTLY like. I haven't seen this movie in, say, 13 years and it dawned on me to find out who this NOT Steve Carell really was. BTW, I know someone who uses that signature... scary. Is this Paul?

reply

Dude I totally agree with ya on Steve Carell being Gills, man he looks just like him! haha! The dude from Sapranos, Christopher, he would be an awesome Chainsaw character!

Thank you all for continuing this thread! I really think it's a great idea---especially with Hollywood's obsession with remakes these days. If any of you know how to contact Steve Carell or his manager, please forward them this thread. Together we can make it happen :-)

Take care,

no way, no remakes, nobody should, or could take Shawnee Smiths place on that movie

Shawnee Smith is the most beautiful person in the world.

I agree with you about no remakes because this movie would not be done right at all. All they would do is screw it up you know.

reply

Looks like a remake may be happening. I just happened to look at Happy Madison's wiki page and they have a Summer School remake listed. Yes, I know it's wikipedia, but I'm sure this will happen. and since it's Happy Madison, it may be starring Adam Sandler. :)

Takin' out the trash, trailer park style!!

reply

Wait, about Steve Carrell looking like the vice principal I thought I heard somewhere that this was Steve's first movie.

I call movies that are considered 'bad' hated movies.

reply

No this is not Steve's first movie, this movie was over 20 years ago, steve would've been way to young to play that role.

I definitely agree with brining in Dean Cameron....not sure about him being Shoop though, seems like they need more of a Mark Harmon type no pun intended, there's a guy who was on the new Dr. Who spin off series torchwood. who looks a whole lot like a young Harmon, I'd vote him. Think his name is John Barrowman

reply

If you're just going to get a bunch of clones of the original actors why bother with the remake? Why not get funny, talented actors and go for broke with a new take on the original. Shoop has to be good looking enough to inspire the crush of what's-her-face, but he doesn't have to look exactly like Mark Harmon.

Vince Vaughn and Steve Carrell are jackasses and that dude from the Sopranos is ten years older than any high school student in the country.

I agree... they shouldn't go for a remake.
They should just do awhole new spin on the movie with newer faces.. and maybe some different subjects.

I love this movie PS

I love this movie dearly...and with all my heart I'd have to say I'd HATE for it to be re-made...
In my opinion its perfect how it stands, there is no way they could make It better with fresher faces and actors from today's stars. Quirky 80s movies like these aren't meant to be remade because the humor was different back then. If the concept of this had been introduced today it would probably turned into something like superbad; appealing to teens through sex jokes, alcohol parties and the like.

Also the actors will NEVER be matched. Everyone in this film did a wonderful job with their characters and the actors are what helped make this film what it is today.

In my opinion your choices are poor except for that of Steve Carell. Some of you say he is just too likeable to be Gills but I disagree. Who here watches the office? In that show steve's character makes many mistakes that lead you to percieve him as an imbecile. I'm sure he could also incorporate the lieing bastard into this role if he was cast.

P.S.; I'm a huge shawnee smith fan as well. She is truly the most beautiful person. =]
