Because they apparently thought the money that could have went towards Watchmen would be better spent on this. Excuse me while I go slam my head against my desk in frustration.
Hey man! What happens in Bizzaro World stays in Bizzaro World!!!
Like I said; they're spending money that would have gone towards, potentially, one of the greatest comic book movies of all time and instead they decided to drop it from their schedule and go with a remake that no will care about, will get savaged by the critics and most likely tank.
Fine, Watchmen is a cult phenomenom but it has a large and loyal following and, from what I've heard, a solid script and director behind it. It would be a risk but if the Watchmen movie is half as good as everyone is saying it's going to be the risk would more than pay itself off.
Way to go Paramount! You could have taken a chance and seen it pay off but you instead chose to go with a remake that no one wants nor do we need. I personally hope Watchmen makes a s**tload of money and everyone, the public and critics, love it when it's finally made and released and you end up looking fools for dropping it and going with THIS instead.
Hey man! What happens in Bizzaro World stays in Bizzaro World!!!
Along with the special edition DVD release commemorating the twentieth anniversary of Summer School, many of the original cast were present for a reunion party. During an audience Q&A, Dean Cameron suggested that he would be open to a sequel or possibly even a remake of the original. When asked who he would cast as Chainsaw, he suggested Shia LaBeouf or Zach Braff. In early 2012, Adam Sandler's production company Happy Madison Productions signed on for the remake.
