If Denise is dyslexic, how (spoilers)

This just hit me. Denise flunks everything because she's dyslexic and can't read the words...well you need to pass a written test before you can even apply for a driver's license, and I know you don't actually write, it's multiple choice, but still, how would she be able to get enough answers right to pass that when she couldn't pass English even when she had a reading specialist help her?

With my understanding, for dyslexia, I think she was able to understand half of what she was reading. I think only certain words are jumbled, like STOP would be POTS or TOPS. If you free frame when Shoop look at the letter she wrote, it looks like a 5 or 6 year old wrote it. The specialist was helping her retrain her brain

I was born and raised in California. Actually you didn't have to know how to read in the 80s to get a driver's license. The DMV offered an oral version of the written exam.

That would explain it.

It was the same in the 70s in the larger cities. In San Diego we had a machines with side visors that walked you through the questions. In the tiny towns they still used the written version. I remember my grandfather taking me with him to renew his license, I was 16. He walked in and out almost immediately with the test and had me help him with answers from the manual. He went back in with the finished test and passed. LOL little towns.

I don't get your question. You mean how did she get the driver's license if she was dyslexic? Maybe there wasn't a written test, or she knew a way around it to pass. But since this is a stupid film, can you wonder why they didn't deal with this crap?
