Is this the same movie I saw as a kid on hbo? The plot seems similar. In one scene that I've never forgotten, the teenage daughter is having sex with her boyfriend for the first time, and she doesn't realize that her "cherry" has been broken until she sees all of the blood and she freaks out. at that same time the controlling stepfather returns home and burts into the room.

Is this right and if not any idea what movie that was?

That's definitely not this movie. Here the stepfather pretty much destroyed any chance of that happening. Not sure what movie that scene you have described is from though.
