question about the end

Why did Keith realise his feelings towards Watts in THAT scene? I mean, there were no romantic circumstances and just like that, from nothing, he remembers their kiss and that he loves her? Why just then?
I love this movie, but I didn´t get the end at all o.O;

That is a good question. My guess is that it was because of Amanda's effort. By rejecting his romantic interest, and suggesting he go after Watts (both literally and figuratively), that poor ol' Keith finally saw the light.

I think that the awkward date with Amanda showed him that Amanda wasn't for him, and then realizing (for the first time) that Watts really liked him in that way (by the look in her eyes), and then he remembered their kiss which made him realize that she was indeed a very-pretty girl, and not just a tom-boy friend.

It all just hit him right at that moment, and for the first time in his life, the block-head did something right!

I just watched this movie again for the first time in years, and I admit, I thought the same thing. The way I rationalized it to myself was that before he could acknowledge his feelings for Watts, he needed to settle things with his dad and face off with Hardy and have his date with Amanda. That's where his focus was: he had something to prove to himself. After those things were settled, he was free to focus on his feelings for Watts... Tenuous, I know. But it's the best I could do. It doesn't detract from how much I adore this movie, though. :)

Yeah I feel that Watts was the woman for him not Amanda, Amanda treated him like dirt even though she had a boyfriend at the time to me was a total jerk towards him. But BestFriends makes the perfit mate in the long one run

well, i agree that the scene came out of nowhere, but the thing about this one is i kinda think keith likes watts all along. much more so than in pretty in pink for example. in that one molly ringwald is never really into ducky at all, she knows he likes her but she just dismisses it

in this one, keith is much more into watts all along, imo. even in the kiss scene, it's almost like he'd just go along with it if she hadn't stopped him. he genuinely likes her from the beginning

reply

Yeah, he did, didn't he? Watts was the woman for him not Amanda

reply

I thought it was because she had called those guys to help Keith and he realized when he saw her by the car, they kind of shared a look of understanding. But I also agree with the posts about him having to go through all of those things beforehand.

Like love, moments of clarity can come out of nowhere. When he walks away from his triumph with Amanda and sees Watts waiting for him come what may, I think he realizes that Amanda was just a part of conquering his self-doubts and not his best friend, his fierce protector and the girl he could see as his life partner.

Keith always loved Watts he just didn't know if it was more than a friend till the end. The scene that gives it away is when Keith visit's Watts trailer and she is drumming to a song in her room and he tells her about the date being a joke. When they both lay on her bed he appologizes to Watts for being so tough on her and she then appologizes back and Keith says "You always hurt the ones you love" and she comes back with "so when are you beating the *beep* out of Amanda Jones" to hide her true feelings.

I havent seen this movie in several years but the way I remember it is that no one called the thugs to come save keith, Keith had the whole thing planned out.

Love does not have a schedule...sometimes it just pops out at ya. He was walking out of the house and saw the love of his life....staring at her, remembering their intense kiss.
