A couple of questions about the club scene

Keith is sitting at a club all dressed up (supposedly waiting for Amanda) and Watts shows up only to say goodbye. I never could figure out why they put this scene in the movie. It just seemed so out of place and awkward. Keith is dressed up on a school night, waiting to meet Amanda at a club? wait....what? Did I miss something?
I don't recall Amanda telling Keith to meet her there.

* Was Keith lying about Amanda meeting him there?
* If Keith was lying about it, why would he lie to Watts about this?
* If Keith was lying about it, what was he really doing at the club?
* What was this scene really about?

BTW: Love This AWESOME Movie & Soundtrack!!!

I agree, it is out of place. However, it is also one of the most powerful moments of the movie for me. Watts' vulnerability and honesty was so heartfelt that you couldn't help but have that "what is he thinking?" sentiment. Best line of the movie...."Because I can't afford to have you hate me, Keith. The only things I care about in this ******* life are me, my drums and you."

From what I understand, there were a couple of scenes right before that one that got deleted--One where it shows him blowing off Watts, and another where he DOES tell Amanda that he's going to the club that night (hoping that she would go too)

So I agree with you that (without those scenes), the club-scene doesn't make a whole lot of sense, and they should've either left those scenes in there or took the club-scene out completely.

With these teen-movies, they're always so determined to keep them to 1:30 (and not one minute more), that a lot of really-good stuff gets left on the cutting-room floor, and it's a shame. I don't know whoever made that rule in the first place, but apparently every teen movie ever made has to follow it.

If it's a good story and a well-done movie, I think the average teenage attention-span could last 2 hours.

So back to your question, that scene was about how Keith was so smitten by Amanda that he started to push his friendship with Watts off to the side.

Thank you soggybottom for that logical explanation! While I agree it was powerful, that scene has always confused the heck out of me. I'd love to see a DVD with deleted scenes and/or Director's commentary.

Anytime Beni!

Yeah, I'd like to see those deleted scenes too (or at least get more of an explanation as to why they left them out)

Wow, you must've done some serious searching on this board to find this thread, as it was almost 2 years ago since I posted on it!
