This is getting a 4K soon
Anyone going to get it?
shareI will. I really enjoy the first two SPM films.
shareThis movie has too many plot holes. Can't get into it
shareI DON'T DO 4K...BUT I WOULD LOVE TO ADD THE SERIES TO MY COLLECTION ONE DAY.
sharePeople are starting to receive their copies. Good reviews thus far.
I'm particularly interested in SPM II as the previous blu-ray is a more dated transfer, released in 2017 and not from the original camera negative nor a 4K remaster. This could potentially be a huge jump in picture quality.
SPM had a 4K remastered 1080p blu ray from the original camera negative back in 2020. So the jump in quality will be lesser. They've done a new scan though and it won't be getting downsized to 1080p this time and with the HDR it should look better for sure.
As expected SPM is a minor-to-moderate improvement visually, the image is deeper with bolder colors than before though not a huge difference. The sound is about the same as before though it perhaps has a bit more oomph at times.
SPM II looks spectacular, it's a huge improvement over the previous blu-ray in pretty much every single aspect. I'd say it looks better than the first film outright, though that may be me reacting to the vast improvement compared to before versus the slight improvement of the first film. The sound is better than before too, much more depth to it. The outdoor scenes in particular are gorgeous, beautiful bold colors and pristine clarity.
Taking a look into both films it would seem like SPM II probably is simply the better looking film for a few reasons;
Over 2x the budget of the first film;
SPM - $220 thousand
SPM II - $500 thousand
Then when you factor in the half a decade between releases (1982 vs 1987) there is the possibility of more expensive and modern equipment (cameras, lighting etc) being used. Makes sense.
