Worst thing about this movie...

To me, the worst thing are the 'love' scenes, particularly earlier on in the film, shortly after Brantley watched his crush drink from the water fountain and things such as that. The first time this happened, he seemed nearly dillusional. I've had crushes before, but imagining them pratically getting caught in and then disappearing from a revolving door? What's up with that one?

The love scenes seemed to not only slow down the plot but bring it screeching to a halt, and it took about two or three minutes after each scene like this to recover fully and get back on track. Granted, the movie is still excellent, but Brantley's being in love annoyed me until he finally got the girl to dinner.

Am I the only one thinking this way? Is there anything you particularly dislike about the film?

If it was my blood, Mommy, would you care a little more?

i'm glad someone else noticed that too, i normally just fast forward that part because its just boring anything after the dinner and to when christy shows up to work on monday i always skip.

I think it was cool that Brantley could do a girl who was a foot taller than he.

reply

lol yea, that girl could wrap her legs around....nevermind...

The problem with Christy is that she doesn't get a personality until half way through the film. Until then she is stuck between fantasy and hard nosed business woman. Later she becames sweet and naive but she's been half ruined by the earlier stuff.

My main issue with the film is the constant establishing shots. There's a montage of Brantley that keeps cutting to New York buildings. They are stuck in everywhere and really jar the pace of the film. Of course, the eighties music doesn't help. I think in the entire film, there is one song that is all right. I ignore the music though, because it was made in the eighties so fair enough, but enough with the scenery already!

I love the cheesy sentimental music alla David Foster (the cheese head behind Chicago and the ST. Elmo's Soundtrack).

I like the one where he sees her enter the building and rush onto the elevator--they cut to a shot of him watching her AFTER she already disappeared onto the elevator, yet they hold on the shot of him gazing lovingly off camera for a long time. What's he looking at? Is he just replaying the dreamy moment where she had that sexy drink of water from the drinking fountain? How utterly Hot! Funny 80's movie moments abound....

Another funny part is when he steps off the bus at the beginning of the movie and immediately sees 3 "Hotties" who smile at him--but they aren't very attractive and they have the best 80's hair...his reaction is that he just witnessed several gorgeous women smile at him, but when they cut to them, they aren't quite what I would call gorgeous...(beauty is on the inside, though.)

Ehhhh, some rather odd comments here. To counter...

1) One of those "not very attractive" models is Cindy Crawford.

2) The music is a HUGE component of this film and has been widely praised by viewers. Fast forwarding past certain points??? You talkin' about the same film? FF'ing through Foster's awesome instrumentals over Brantley's daydreams?? Sure, the endless shots of New York make the filmmakers seem like they thought they were the first people to ever shoot there. But Foster's music carries that stuff.

3) Characters deep in thought is a neccessary element missing from today's film. Nobody takes the time to step back for a second and ponder things. Be it a crush, or plot points, or the aftermath of something. It really works here.

reply

Yeah Cindy and the last girl were models and I think one was Mary Stewart Masterson.

The soundtrack kind of ruins the movie for me. It's very cheesy in the worst possible way. The music just doesn't make any sense for the scenes that are used with it.

That's why my friends always thought of her as a c--t.

I know...i thinks its funny how he would stand there when he sees her for like ten minutes every time...and i actually laughed when i though what it must have looked like outside of his fantasy....she gets a sip of water and he freezes ad dtays there andshe leaves....as does everybody....but he is still standing there like "A WOMAN OMG!" and he has that "i just jizzed in my pants" look on his face. that happens like five times

Mornings and mirrors only serve to terrify old men.

Every "love moment" leading up to when he talks to her is glaringly cheesy...the music? The imagery? I have no idea what they were thinking.

That aside, some good comedy and no question, Michael Fox at his plateau.
