VERY dumb ending...

I can understand, with Christy being a former female executive, and Brantly being a short-lived executive, as well as, a college educated business major, why, near the end, did Auntie Vera include Melrose(the goofy, seemingly uneducated mail-room worker) and Jean(the heavy(in more ways than one) Brooklyn accented secretary) as the members of the NEW PEMBROSE CORP., which, according to Auntie V ,Howard ran into the ground and these people, she feels, can bring it back again.I understand it's just a goofy comedy, but really, what qualifications do Jean and Melrose have(except that Auntie V seems to have the hots for Melrose?)

You have thought too much about this. I mean really, we can go back to many parts of the movie..I think you just have to take these facts to be just what they are within the context of this movie...fun.

You could also ask: would Vera be so willing to go into business with the woman who was screwing her husband?

It's a movie.

Well, they don't know what Melrose or Jean will be doing. I'd expect Jean to be Brantley's secretary/assistant. And who knows, Melrose could be good at something if properly motivated. I could see him being a pretty good salesman.

It's just a movie. Just suspending disbelief for about 2 for some entertainment is the best way to kill time and this movie really does that Light entertainment that does not require too much thinking.

Nah, it's you typical 80's feel good ending. Everything wraps up nice and neatly and the good guys win with a cute soundtrack to top it off with a cherry. :)

What's not to like?

If someone doesn't want the happy ending then maybe they should check out ***spoiler******* "Last American Virgin."

Well, we don't know what sort of qualifications Melrose has. Brantly was a business major and he was sent to the mailroom to start. It might be that Melrose has a college degree as well, though he does not seem all that motivated to be honest. Jean will just be Brantly's executive assistant - no reason that she can't fill that position; what little we see of her doing her job in the film, she seems to do well enough at it.
I doubt Melrose is going to have a very important position; he'll probably just be Brantly's 'gofer' or something like that. At the end, Vera makes it plain that 'business is business' when she fires Howard. She's not going to let Melrose screw anything up just because she wants to sleep with him.
