Murphy's death.

I implore you to find a more disturbing death scene.

reply

Yeah, his death has stayed with me over all other memories of that film. It was very disturbing and it was meant to be.
I read somewhere that they deliberately made it as brutal as possible to gain more sympathy for a character that we'd only known for a short time..And it worked.

Your statement really brings to light what a great decision it was to show someone's humanity by having it blown away in cruel fashion.

The brutality of the scene was not only so visually jarring but clever in a way on part of the filmmakers. The inclusion of such violence depicted in the display meant there was better chance for some elements to make it past censors. It's likely the whole entire scene would have been completely discarded had standard film industry guidelines for the time were followed.

I first saw this when I was like 14 or 15 years old... It was very disturbing.

Mr. Kinney's death too!

It’s a sadistic experience, and extremely uncomfortable. It almost makes the movie repulsive. You have to forgive this scene if you going to enjoy the movie, unless there’s something wrong with you.

Reservoir dogs?

First time I saw that scene I was in college and it was disturbing even then. The audience cares about Murphy a lot even at the beginning.
