About the scene with ED-209 and Mr. Kinney...

Was Kinney bumped off on purpose? Or was it genuinely a horrible accident?

reply

I'm sure it was just as it seems, a genuinely horrible accident.

I'll let you know when I come-up with a new signature, .

Will somebody call a goddam paramedic? Let's go, Johnson!

"Will somebody call a goddam paramedic?"

That's supposed to be the joke. Basically there's no chance a paramedic could do anything, but somebody still feels the urge to make the token 'gesture' of concern (check out Verhoeven's commentary, it's great!) :-)

reply

Why would Dick sabotage his own plan so another man could propose his? ξ€ž

If I don't reply, you're most likely on my ignore list

It was a reckless accident. The point of the scene is to show the callous nature and attitude Corporate CEOs have for their employees (and everyone in general) that doesn't fit their bottom line. It is a metaphor for corporate greed.

The old man has a calm reaction to Mr. Kinney's death, but goes ballistic over the fact that his Delta City project is now put on hold. Notice his mention of the interest payments.

Jones didn't care either. He even tells Bob Morton, "Who cares if it didn't work !" All Jones wanted was the government contract.

I think it is also interesting how the director and writers go as far as incorporating the vicious cycle of business, crime, and drugs. Without crime, there is no crime fighting force. OCP was aiding and abetting Clarence Boddicker by allowing him to funnel the cocaine into Detroit. As the crime continues to rise, OCP makes money through the privatization of the police force.
