I know Robocop beats the *beep* out of him in the factory, but it's just not enough.
I would have liked to have seen Robocop shoot Boddickers hand off. Then the rest of his arm. The shoot him full of bullets and blow his brains out. He should have been tortured and take forever to die, like Murphy.
An eye for an eye.
As a matter of fact Emil's death was way worse than Boddickers.

I get what you're saying and Boddicker deserved no less, but I think that would kinda paint Murphy/Robocop in a bad light.

That poor bastard got it the worst What a gruesome fate, but I'm sure he deserved it.

Considering how violent Murphy/Robocop is and how much I love seeing him throw Boddicker through windows like a ragdoll in the factory and almost choke him to death, I don't thin'k it would have made Murphy/Robocop look bad.
The black guy should have had Emils death. When he says to Murphy "does it hurt? does it hurt" and "goodnight sweet prince" I wanted to kill him right there. Those lines make him a sadistic evil bastard as bad as Boddicker. Even worse than when Leon shoots off the remains of Murphys left arm and laughs as he does it. I don't know if you've seen the directors cut but its even harder to watch Murphys death in that version, because Murphy takes longer to die.
And when Boddicker finishes him off you actually see the bullet penetrate Murphys scull.

I own the "Criterion" edition of the film and yeah, Murphy's death is a lot more graphic in that version. Personally I think Boddicker and his whole crew deserved worse than what they got. I found Joe Cox's death to be pretty underwhelming, but at least he wasn't laughing after that.

But that would blur the line between Robocop and Clarence too much.
We love to hate Clarence because he is so sadistic and evil and revels in torture. Murphy is painted as a good, upstanding cop. For Murphy to torture a man to death at the point when he is meant to have regained the greater part of his humanity would be for us to see this good, upstanding man brought down to commit the unspeakable acts that he has himself endured. It would be distasteful and ignoble.
Also, I always took it as the reason Robo doesn't just shoot Clarence when he has ample time as he says he's not arresting him this time is because he is still fighting his programming. Faced with an unarmed, apparently surrendering perp, Robo is being forced to uphold the law and arrest him. He still cannot quite break his programming and kill him, much less torture him to death. He can only kill him at the point when Clarence is again actively breaking the law and using lethal force against officer Murphy.

I agree, and even though Clarence and his gang deserved far worse than what they got, that doesn't mean I would have liked to have seen Murphy dish that punishment out. Which is why I said to the other poster that "I think that would kinda paint Murphy/Robocop in a bad light".

I've never considered this, but I like it (a lot) and I think it makes a lot of sense (:

To me, that's why he spends so long just walking towards Clarence. He could have ended it in seconds if he could just pull the trigger, and we know he wants to. He came close in the coke factory but his programming stopped him from choking Clarence to death.
For me, this is Robocop being frustrated again. Murphy wants to just end it there and then, and he talks a big talk, but Robocop won't let him... until Clarence becomes a threat.
I always wanted Clarence and Emil's deaths switched. Have the showdown with Emil(ala like Clarence) and have Robo kill Emil with the spike to the neck. Kinda letting us forget about Clarence for those few minutes. Then afterwards somewhat having Lewis remind Robo that Clarence is still wandering so a chase ensues thru the steel mill to catch Clarence in the van and Clarence wrecks Robo's police cruiser, turns the van around to try to smash the cruiser and finish Robo off while Robo is trying to get out(in which he does make it out in the nick of time to shoot at the van to divert it into the toxic waste tank just like he did Emil), then have the toxic waste scene that happened to Emil play out(except for the contact with Leon because he's already dead) and Robo leaves him suffering like that.
I loved it. It was sadistically enjoyable to watch that cop killer die. Sure, torture and prolonged pain would be awesome. But ultimately, sticking it in his neck was oddly satisfying.
