What if Murphys wife wanted his body for the funeral?

Just because Murphy signed a release-form, whatever that is, when he joined the force, doesn't mean that OCP can just steal his body.

They probably adviced Miss Murphy not to see the body, due to how brutally Murphy was killed. But what if she had insisted?

Lewis told Robocop there was a funeral, which means they buried an empty coffin. And nobody ever questioned that? Obviously OCP kept Murphys body during the entire construction of Robocop as one of the technicians mentions they were able to save his left arm. But they threw away his arm and the rest of his remains except his face and brain.

And from what I understand it took at least 6 months to build Robo as Murphy was killed in the summer. And the tachnicians celebrate new years eve, right where they build him. So if they buried "Murphy, lets say a few days after his death, I conclude they buried an empty coffin.

In principle, they shouldn't do that. But OCP can do whatever they want and would do it at any cost.

I have this theory that they did give back the body, but without the face. Like, they surgically took off his real face, preserved it, and made a new face to replace it on his skull. Think of Face/Off.

Like, whatever face/mask they made, must've been purposely molded to look damaged. As in, OCP delivered the body to the morgue and funeral home with a badly wounded face. The cover story could be that Murphy was shot badly in the face. It would avoid any suspicion since he was killed in the line of duty by gunfire.

Or...as I stated before, the real body could've been used. All that OCP's scientist needed were the brain, heart and some of the nervous system. As for his face, another explanation arose online as I got older.

It has been said that Murphy's face on the Robotic skull isn't even his real face. It's cloned flesh. From his real face and head. It's somewhat similar to what I thought of for many year. But I think this theory is more sophisticated. OCP needed to harvest the vital organs, so they just needed to take them out of his corpse, make a cloned copy of his real face using mock human skin/flesh and then give the corpse to the morgue/funeral.

I thought it would've been around 3 months. Because Morton said to the Old Man that the prototype could go into effect within 90 days. I always thought Murphy was killed during or maybe in between the fall/winter season. Then New Years fell upon the scientists still working on him. Some somewhere by late January or early February, RoboCop would start to be online and running.

But the way you stated would make more sense though.

As for the coffin, how about this? What if...OCP waited a few weeks after the funeral they had a team go out to exhumed the body from the coffin and start harvesting the organs and take off his face?

What you said is a good theory. Except the part you forgot. That they saved his left arm for no apparent reason except to show what a cold bastard Bob Morton is. Anyway since they did save his left arm, they had his body up until at least that point.

In the trailer you can hear Bob Morton saying something like: "they got the body waiting in the morgue right now"

Which means OCP took Murphys body from the morgue, right after he was pronounced dead by the doctors that tried to revive him.

I know this wasn't in the movie, but Im guessing it was from a scene that was cut from the movie.

reply

Yeah, they took his whole body. Probably similar to donating one's body to science, where you can choose a specific organization.

I think the face on RoboCop is Murphy's original face because it has the mark from the final bullet.

DISPLAY thy breasts, my Julia!

I don't know if this counts as canon or not but I saw at the comic book store many years ago a comic book series that was a sequel to Robocop and on one of the covers he is at the graveyard visiting his own grave and it says "here lies alex j murphy".

How BIZARRE is it to visit one's own grave stone?

Robocop is surreal because according to some definitions of the word he is dead and according to other definitions of the word he is alive.
