Why do the OCP executives keep a loaded handgun in their boardroom?

I'm surprised I've never seen anyone bring this up before. Why is there a box with a loaded handgun in the OCP boardroom? I could understand if it was there just for the ED209 demonstration, but it's still there at the end of the movie, which takes place a long time later. If it wasn't there, the whole part with the CEO being taken hostage by Jones could have been avoided.

Well, they are in Detroit after all.

Well, he does have an ED209 unit guarding the building at the end of the movie, wich means that it must've been fixed and approved, wich means they probably used that Dedert Eagle at least once more since Kenny (or what's his name) died.
Maybe they thought "better leave the gun here, we're gonna need it a lot more".

reply

Maybe because Jones knows that he is a wanted criminal whose web of lies is being tugged at, and who occasionally does face-to-face deals with psychopathically violent and sadistic crime bosses.

If I were that man, I'd keep a loaded gun nearby at all times too.

In that case I'd keep a gun holstered on my body. I wouldn't just leave it sitting out in the board room where any random janitor or construction crewman could steal it.

reply

OCP did it all, including manufacture weapons. Perhaps that handgun was one of their signature products and that's why they had it there.

reply

Doesn't explain why it was loaded with live rounds. You don't keep live ammo in a gun that's only used for a display piece.

reply

It may not have been loaded with live rounds. It's never fired. Maybe Dick Jones was bluffing.

reply

When Dick Jones grabs the gun at the end of the movie, the first thing he does is rack the slide. If there was no ammo in the gun, then the slide would stay locked back. The fact that it doesn't means there had to be ammunition in the magazine, though I suppose it could be loaded with inert "dummy rounds" instead of live ammo.

It's the executive pistol. It even resides in a red velvet lined case.... LoL

They are radical supporters of the NRA. LOL

I'll bet it really spices up pitch meetings.

Same reason ED 209 is armed when it's brought in for a demonstration. OCP are evil bastards that do whatever they want and get away with it. Like letting their own creation kill poor Mr. Kinny. And turn Murphy into Robocop against his will.

And turning an entire city private and kill politicians and civillians by the dozen in the sequel and get away with it.

OCP is somehow above the law. And they're not facing justice untill the horrible kiddie-friendly Robocop 3.

reply

Because this movie is over the top fun.
