Nicolas Cage = Worst actor ever

now let me begin to say that i liked this movie. But it had a lot of potential that was destroyed by the horrendous actor, Nicolas Cage. Nicolas Cage has been in only one good movie, and he was horrible in it. (I'm talking about this movie.)

Cage was a in a lot of GOOD MOVIES:

Rumble Fish
Valley Gil
Moonstruck
Peggy Sue Got Married
Raising Arizona
Wild at Heart
Leaving Las Vegas
8 MM
The Rock

I second that, and I also add "Lord of War" to that bunch. He couldn't get more cynical there if he wanted.

Nicolas Cage is a good, no very good, actor who has the unfortunate tendacy to over-act and take really really bad roles. He was great in this, Leaving Las Vegas, Moonstruck, Adaptation, and Bad Lieutenant:PoNO. After Adaptation, he was a string of bad movies. In fact, Adaptation was the first "good movie" I've seen him in, and when he comes on, sweating and rambling, I was just "woah"

An actors performance depends a lot on the director. A good director can make any actor excel. I thought this performance was really good, but I'd like to see Cage in the hands of P.T. Anderson. Just look at what the guy did with Mark Wahlberg, Tom Cruise, and Adam Sandler.

He´s definitely decent to very good in Birdy, RA, Wild At Heart, Red Rock West, Bringing Out The Dead, Adaptation and Port Call: New Orleans.

@OP:

Worst actor *EVER*? That's pretty harsh. You also wrote "Nicolas Cage has been in only one good movie."

I'll second a lot of the recommendations on this board, just in case you really haven't seen these -

-Rumble Fish
-Vampire's Kiss (Cage has got to be seen to be believed)
-Wild at Heart
-Leaving Las Vegas
-Adaptation
-Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans

All these are great films - if you inadvertently declared these films "bad" I'd take a look at them before going any further. If you HAVE and keep your assertion, I'd love to hear why none of these make the cut.

There are certain roles that Nicolas Cage pulls off well and then there are others that cannot be played by anyone else but him, namely: H.I. McDonnaugh, Ben Sanderson (Leaving Las Vegas), Charlie/Donald Kaufman (Adaptation) and Terrence McDonaugh (Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans). He is also amazing in Face/Off which is my favorite movie with Nicolas Cage and fun in Moonstruck. What is unfortunate about Nicolas Cage is that he really isnt a good actor at all, but everything that makes him bad is required sometimes for the roles that he ends up pulling off well. Leaving Las Vegas required an actor like Cage who had to literally scream, yell, puke, and get drunk on screen and audiences can't take their eyes off him in that movie and his Oscar win was warranted. More recently he's been taking roles that don't fit him but also are just bad characters in bad movies. He every now and then picks a good role for himself, but he definitely was better at picking these roles in the past. Movies like Season of the Witch should not star Cage, but they also should just not exist

To me Nicolas Cage is the best worst actor ever. He gets so incredibly into his roles. All of them. He plays them like he's acting in an Ed Wood level Z Grade movie with all of Wood's crazy involvement. By most theories of acting he's horrendous, but at the same time there are quite a few people (such as myself) who find his acting in some strange way to be brilliant.

Anyone who has seen Adaptation, Leaving Las Vegas, Lord of War or Bringing Out the Dead would be lying if they said he is the worst actor ever, or even the worst "major" actor out there.

He is completely unique, and there's not another actor like him. He needs directors who can harness his insanity and abilities, and when he gets one (Coens, Scorsese, Jonze, Herzog) his performance is great. His tax troubles are no secret, so you can't fault him for taking awful roles for the pay cheque.

I thought he was great in Leaving Las Vegas, Adaptation, Bringing Out the Dead and Raising Arizona. I have a soft spot for him in Racing with the Moon, Birdy, Raising Arizona and even Wild at Heart.
