Nicolas Cage = Worst actor ever

now let me begin to say that i liked this movie. But it had a lot of potential that was destroyed by the horrendous actor, Nicolas Cage. Nicolas Cage has been in only one good movie, and he was horrible in it. (I'm talking about this movie.)

look, you're just wrong, and no one is going to agree with you, so don't post this kind of crap anymore.

Maybe it was Utah.

reply

Yes, NC is truly the worst "major" Hollywood actor in the last years.
But the movie is still good!!

reply

Sorry, I agree with him. I think Nicholas Cage is one of the worst actors out there.

Ironically though, I like a lot of the films he's in. But they would all be better if they were cast with a different actor.

Having said that, Raising Arizona was just awful.

reply

But I've seen more than one Nicolas Cage film that I consider to be good. What's wrong with me?

nicolas cage is a great actor, he just picks alot of really crappy movies. the only really good ones ive seem in are this and the fake preview for werewolf women of the ss. and i guess lord of war to a lesser extent.

Nicolas Cage is definitely NOT a great actor.

The only actor, I consider to be "great" is the Legend himself, Mr. Marlon Brando. He, well, what more can I say, he is the "Godfather" of Cinema. However, I wouldn't say Cage has been bad, his Nat'l Treasure movies as I recall have done quite we'll. Yeah he done some crap movies but who hasn't.

reply

Brando in 'Apocalypse Now' was a huge disappointment for me.

reply

Thats funny, because I see him as picking a lot of great movies, but a really crappy actor.

Nicholas Cage has never, in his entire career, played anyone other than Nicholas Cage. He's had some good movies, but it's almost always in spite of him.

reply

The other movies I really liked him in were "Peggy Sue Got Married", "Guarding Tess", and "City of Angels".

But as I go down the list of his filmography, there are at least a dozen others that are pretty good. Mostly he was tolerable in the romantic comedies, and he sucked in the adventure-type movies.

reply

I think this is one of Cage's best performances. He's not the greatest actor ever, but he's pretty damn good when he gets the right project. This was one of those good projects, so it worked out really well imo. I thought he made H.I. endearing and hilarious. Plus, he pulled off that fabulous hair!

Funny. I have the opposite opinion. I don't like Nick Cage, I think he's a terrible actor. But I think he was good in this movie.

I think people only started saying he was terrible when he started doing movies like National Treasure and Con Air. If he didn't do any of that crap and stuck to only films like Leaving Las Vegas and Adaptation everyone would be praising him as one of the best actors out there. But all the crap he does discredits his talent a bit I think.

Nicholas Cage is a great actor. I'd say my least favorite actor would be John Travolta. I just never liked the movies he starred in or the roles he played.

don't kill me but I freaking loved his performance in Pulp Fiction! ha ha.

reply

I wouldn't say that Nicolas Cage is either the worst or the best actor. I think he's just right in certain roles, and I liked him a lot in Raising Arizona.

reply

I would equate Cages acting ability to the abilities of Keanu Reeves. If you put them in the right roll where one doesn't need to display alot of emotional range, they can be effective. If they have to display any range of emotions, they are terrible.

reply

Yeah, I could so see them in Point Break together.

How anyone could compare Cage with Reeves is beyond me. It's like suggesting your John Deere has been getting the same mileage as your Toyota Tercel. Cage has given many very good performances, and a few genuinely great ones. Aside from RA, I'd argue for Leaving Las Vegas, Adaptation, The Rock (yes, that Rock), The Weather Man, Bringing out the Dead, Face/Off, and possibly Wild at Heart, Matchstick Men, and Moonstruck.

I'm not normally one for remakes, and I love the original, but I'm very anxious to see him in Herzog's Bad Lieutenant.

reply

I'm of the ilk that thinks Nicolas Cage is a good actor, with moments of greatness...and a habit of picking bad projects.

The thing is...when he has the right part...he is very good. He was great in Bringing Out The Dead...and he was horrible in Snake Eyes. I was in awe of his performance in Leaving Las Vegas...and I wanted to tear out my eyeballs after Face/Off.

reply

He is a very good actor, but he is just makes poor choices especially nowadays. He was great in this role though. He is also excellent in Wild At Heart, Leaving Las Vegas, Lord of War, Adaptation, and Face/Off.

^^^

I thought the worst thing about Bringing Out the Dead was that they cast Nicolas Cage in it. This was a promising movie (that I actually liked quite a lot) that just died in the casting. Cage was not at all convincing in this role. Apparently, Paul Schrader wanted Edward Norton (who would have been perfect for the role) but it got nixed because nobody else (Scorsese included) thought he was a big enough "star" at the time.

As far as the thread question goes, Nicolas Cage is neither the best nor the worst actor. I'm not a big fan of him or his persona and he has made a lot of bad career decisions lately. He is awful in some of the roles he chooses. But he was just right for a movie like Raising Arizona, because he does the slightly unhinged hick sort of character so well.
