I never even heard of this movie until two weeks ago and seeing all the praise I thought I'd give it a go, thinking it would be a fun family movie.
It was more than that! This is fantastic! Every single character was different and interesting! The movie made me feel like a child even though I have no nostalgic connection to it! I plan on seeing this many times in the future with other people I am sure will love it!
Yay! It always makes me happy when someone sees this movie for the first time and "gets it." I grew up watching it over and over, so I have a totally different experience, but my reaction when watching it is still pretty much the same as yours :)
I have a son who's almost a year old, and I kind of can't wait until he's old enough to watch movies so we can watch this together.

I'm 36 and I have it on DVD. It's special to me for personal reasons too. I grew up watching this when you didn't have a hundred channels and Netflix etc. This was one of the films you looked forward to seeing at Christmas. It was one of the first movies we ever taped to VHS.
