Last Scene Grandfather Theory

Please help guys maybe I'm super dumb but it bothers me in the very last scene when the grandfather leaves the room he makes a very obvious show of patting down his pockets and looking for something. Don't know what it could mean but it always just seemed a little odd and out of place to mean nothing. Thoughts?

It's a nod to the actor's signature character, Columbo. Peter Falk, who plays the grandfather, was the star of a long-running and very popular show about a detective who's sort of bumbling and absent-minded, but always solves the case. That sort of vague fumbling about his person was one of Columbo's signature moves, usually right before he cracked the case.

It was just a throwaway gag.

Thank you man that explains it.

He should have said, "Oh, and one other thing..."

Just checking that he had his keys, glasses, etc. Very common thing to do.

May be just a delaying tactic so he can spend a few more minutes with his grandson.
