Second half is stupid
I love Carpenter and his style is on full force here. Gotta love the cinematography, the atmosphere, the music, etc. But the best parts were Victor Wong and Donald Pleasance debating philosophy. The dialogue in those scenes were riveting and engaging like a really cool podcast. The horror stuff is ironically the weakest element here.
It's like Carpenter wanted to make a really thought provoking film discussing science vs religion, but felt obligated to crowbar zombies getting judo-chopped out of 4th-story windows. I still like the movie enough but I wish I saw what a lot of other people see. Instead I see a really well made and intriguing film become an atypical zombie B-movie cheesefest.
