what could they have told the police?

I think I asked this years ago but I don't remember what the comments were.

What could the survivors at the end have possibly told the police to explain all the dead bodies? The only thing I could think of was to say the homeless people attacked them. But even that wouldn't cover the two missing women who went thru the mirror. I can't see any way they all don't end up in jail.

reply

I never did think about that. They best thing they could hope for was that someone else noticed all the homeless people hanging around there.

reply

They could refer the whole thing to the Catholic Church's legal dept who would settle the case without publicity.

reply

More to the point, I think it's amusing how there's never any effort made by anyone to contact the police.

I know it was filmed during the early days of mobile phones, but to think they've set up all this expensive equipment inside, without any phone lines, nor thought the slightest about security arrangements, is ... very convenient for the plot. I wouldn't like to be in Prof. Birack's shoes back at the university trying to offer an explanation for the deaths of copious numbers of Phd students.🐭

reply

I thought the exact thing. But if the Catholic Church can hide the offspring of an interdimensional being of evil for 2000 years without even the priests ever finding out I'm sure they could influence the legal system enough to let them get a pardon

reply

How'd they die? I can't remember.

Today they'd have a lot of forensic evidence

A question I pose at the end of many horror movies

They would tell the police: the truth.

This whole thread is a non sequitur. It's based on the false premise that truth shall stay hidden despite the events of the film. But in contradiction to that premise, one of the main points of the film is that the truth is out of the bag now and everyone will know it.

So contrary to what the OP and other posts in this thread imply, there is no need for a "pardon" or a "cover up" because none of the characters did anything illegal.

Yes, we know that they didn't do anything wrong but the police(nor anyone else who didn't personally witness the events) wouldn't and, as such, would find it impossible to believe their story. So, either they'd be arrested and possibly convicted for the deaths/missing people and/or committed.

Basically, the survivors would be 'Cassandras' in that scenario.

Denial is a strong thing to overcome especially when said denial is in regards to someone's deeply and dearly held worldview/beliefs.

A nozh scrap any time you say.
