The only thing that kept the series head above water.

Was bringing back Zed. The guy's hillarious. Other than that it would have been the same old crap.

Good guys may not finish last but they sure as sh*t don't finish first!

They were part of why I had a huge crush on Leslie Easterbrook at the time. Then again, didn't every teenage boy my age at the time?

I liked it that he had a relationship with that girl too. The sequence where he is talking about how people don't understand him is touching. I also liked seeing Harris again and loved him telling Zed off. Interesting he didn't tell him to report to the Academy barber.

You beat me to it.

Sometimes other characters are used inventively, but Zed - and especially Bobcat Goldthwait's portrayal of him - go above and beyond.

Maybe the writers found it easier to write for him, as there's little of Zed that feels rehashed... at least between II-IV, and IV is clearly Zed's best film...

Harris getting to run the Academy was also a new angle. Even though it was temporary it was great to see him in charge and try to spoil Lassard's program from the top spot.

Zed's story was great. I think Harris treating him like dirt was the first time we'd seen Zed allow someone to talk to him like that without going nuts and attacking them.

I'm think Callahan is the reason as well?

Callaghan wasn't in part 2 and it was great. Police Academy was always an ensemble effort. It was never great just because of one character.
