I think this is the only movie that I have seen where the contender is not interested in winning at all. He knows he has to, but everything depends on the truck and the money, so he can start over.

If it was the truck offered as a prize that was all (and the only thing) that mattered to Hawks, that is kind of odd. I imagine the truck offered by Grandpa Cutler was far more superior than the truck offered as a prize.
